Jeju’s Youth Food Village
Village Introduction
Jeju Culinary Town (2025)
A culinary experiment community village based on Jeju’s local food culture

What is Jeju Culinary Town?
Jeju Culinary Town is a unique community that brings together the spirit of Jeju, the art of cooking, and the warmth of shared experiences. The name blends “Jeju,” “culinary,” and “town,” reflecting our belief that the kitchen is more than just a space for preparing food—it’s a place where relationships are formed and memories are made. Led by young people on Jeju Island, this village uses fresh local ingredients to create meals that foster connection and purpose. At Jeju Culinary Town, food isn’t just about eating—it’s about coming together. We invite you to be part of a community where every dish tells a story.

Introducing Jeju Culinary Town
“Cook yourself, eat together!”
Jeju Culinary Town is a youth-led village rooted in the unique food culture of Jeju Island. By blending the freshness, simplicity, and warmth of traditional Jeju cuisine with the creativity of the younger generation, we’re developing a new style of Jeju-inspired fast food—what we call J-FOOD.
Thanks to Jeju’s mild climate and its abundance of fresh, local ingredients, quick and healthy meals can be enjoyed year-round. The island offers rich seasonal harvests from both the sea (mulbat) and the land (ttangbat or uyeongpat—small kitchen gardens), forming the heart of Jeju’s everyday cooking.
Traditionally, it was women who prepared the meals while also managing work and family responsibilities. With limited time, they relied on simple, efficient methods—but the food remained wholesome and nourishing. In these practices, we see not just recipes, but reflections of how Jeju people lived—resilient, resourceful, and closely connected to their environment.
We believe this style of cooking—minimal yet nourishing—is deeply relevant to modern life. Through Jeju Culinary Town, we invite young people to engage with this tradition, explore what it means to eat and live well, and create new dishes that carry these values into the future—one meal at a time.

Who’s Behind Jeju Youth Village?
The village is run by Ilrowa Inc., a local management organization (LMO) revitalizing Jeju’s original downtown through sustainable community projects. With a vision to build a city where young people can stay, grow, and thrive, Ilrowa connects Jeju’s local resources with the potential of youth to transform Jeju from a tourist destination into a “relationship-driven city.”
Ilrowa is behind several key initiatives:
Integrated marketing support to help local businesses grow
Sogilbyeolha, a local brand store that promotes regional products
Jeju Culinary Town, the youth village that fosters connection and lifestyle through food
Gwanmuzhang-gil Project, which boosts the charm of the original downtown while nurturing a new generation of youth creators and local brands.
